BGRIMM POWER SMART SOLUTION Partners with GC to Launch 8 Megawatt Solar Power Project, Energizing Solar Energy in Factories Towards Net Zero
BGRIMM Power Smart Solution Co., Ltd. (BGPSS), a subsidiary of BGRIMM Power Public Company Limited (BGRIM), one of the leading energy companies in Thailand, has signed a power purchase agreement with PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC), a leader in the global chemical industry, to develop an 8 megawatt solar power system project.
The project will be installed at GC's factory in the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate in Rayong Province, aiming to utilize clean solar energy to replace electricity generated from fossil fuels in GC's production processes. This initiative supports the goal of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning to sustainable energy.
Mr. Nopadet Kransut, CEO of BGRIMM Power Public Company Limited for Thailand and Industrial Business Solutions, stated, “This collaboration with GC will help develop the clean energy business, expand investments in the ASEAN region, and increase the share of renewable energy in line with the GreenLeap-Global and Green strategy to respond to the rapid changes in the energy world and the evolving demands of customers by providing stable, accessible, and sustainable energy for the industry, aiming to become a leading global energy producer.”
Furthermore, Mr. Nopadet added that BGRIM is committed to expanding investments in renewable energy power plants both domestically and internationally, with ongoing projects in various countries including South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia, Greece, the United States, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia, as well as in Thailand. This investment expansion marks a significant step towards the goal of increasing the share of renewable energy to over 50% to mitigate the impacts of long-term fluctuations in natural gas prices and to foster business partnerships that create opportunities, aiming for a power generation capacity of 10,000 megawatts by 2030 and achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065.
“BGRIM is dedicated to continuously expanding investments in renewable energy businesses in line with our corporate vision, aiming to empower the world compassionately,” Mr. Nopadet concluded.
Mr. Tosaporn Boonyapipat, CEO of PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC), stated, “GC is committed to developing its business alongside sustainable industrial development, emphasizing the reduction of environmental impacts, global warming, and greenhouse gas emissions based on the principles of a circular economy, while driving towards a sustainable low-carbon industry. This collaboration with BGRIM reflects GC's role in promoting the use of renewable energy in the industrial sector, balancing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors to achieve net zero by 2050. We believe that today's collaboration will lead to clean energy projects and new innovations that not only address sustainability but also ensure long-term energy security for the country.”
In the past, GC has continuously advanced solar power and renewable energy installation projects in various factories to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and enhance energy efficiency sustainably. By 2024, GC aims to utilize electricity with a reduced greenhouse gas emission factor, resulting in a reduction of 57,885 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year, while continuing to increase the share of renewable energy in collaboration with partners across all sectors.
This project represents a significant step for both companies in driving the energy transition and jointly reducing greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with the goal of achieving Net Zero Emissions as set by the companies.
This signing not only reflects the clean energy vision of both BGRIM and GC but also demonstrates the collaboration between two Thai organizations in driving global goals to combat climate change and elevate the Thai industry to be truly environmentally friendly.
